Today (finally!) we had both time and weather to go pick out pumpkins for Toby and Jake. We went to a nearby farm-stand and Toby had a great time pulling the cart around with the pumpkins on it.

Back at home this afternoon, we carved the "funny face" (what Toby calls a smily face), and Toby played with the pumpkin-guts. He said he was making pumpkin play-doh. (He made play-doh at Laurie's last week, so he has it on his mind)

And, a mystery solved:

For a long time now, probably almost a year, Toby has referred to one of his favorite songs as "The Laurie Song." This is a John Lithgow song - The Hippopotamus Song. For the life of us, we just couldn't figure out why he would link a song about Hippos wallowing in "Glorious mud" to Laurie (his daycare provider of two years.)

Well, today, on the way home from the SteveSongs concert (which was GREAT), Toby was singing along with the "Laurie song" and at the end, where it says loudly "GLORIOUS MUD!!" he sang loudly and clearly "gLAURIE'S MUUUUDDD." Josh & I just looked at each other grinning and said "aHA!" We thought that was going to be forever a mystery. :)

this made me think..

Isn't it funny when you realize that you've mis-parsed song lyrics? I remember in high school when I heard a friend singing "Nothing Compares to You" (remember that song?) and she sang with great gusto "I can eat my dinner in a fancy red sarong!" ha ha ha. I still laugh every time I think of it. (You do remember what it is supposed to be? I like my friend's lyrics better.)
