Sweet music

Toby composed a special song for me yesterday morning. We were hanging out in bed and were all (well, except Toby) very tired from the poor night's sleep. Toby wanted us to get up, and I requested a good morning song. This is his song:

"Good morning, good morning, good morning! Sleepy Mommy, sleepy Mommy, sleepy Mommy, sleepy Mommy! I love you, I love you, I love you I love YOOOOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (with arms spread wide, and eyes closed for the last long word)

He sang this to me this morning also, and to Josh as well (sub in "Daddy" as appropriate). He mixes it up a bit, but it's always some combination of "good morning", "sleepy Mommy" and "I love you".

No matter how he sings it, it's always the sweetest song I've ever heard. : )

I know I write a lot more about stuff that Toby does than stuff that Jake does. Rest assured, Jake is quite active and well-represented in the affection department. I think I don't write as much about him because I feel like my writing skills are not fully up to the task of representing the sweetness of baby-hood. (toddler stories are much more tangible somehow)

For example, how do you write about how sweet a baby smells when he first wakes up? Or how I love going into his little cocoon of a room, all warm & humid, on a cold night and snuggling with him in his rocker? How sweet he looks in his little sleep-sack (the one that buttons up over his jammies). Or how I love his sleepy smiles when he first wakes up?

Jake giggles so much now, and has a special spot behind his armpits that makes him pitch forward in a heap of giggles. It's completely contagious; you can't watch him without giggling yourself.

He opens his mouth whenever any object passes near it.

Jake loves kicking and wriggling, especially when his bulky winter clothing is removed. He loves sucking on his own toes. He is in the "flapjack" stage now, where he rolls from back to belly and wants you to flip him back over all the time. -Though he prefers sleeping on his belly.

His head is really fuzzy.

He puts everything that he can get his hands on in his mouth. He can reach out and grab things rather quickly- he'll grab your plate right off the table if you're not careful.

He's learning how to eat "solids", but still not a big fan. He *loves* watching others eat and drink. He's getting better at sitting up on his own.

If you make fish lips at him (pucker & make little kisses) he'll do it back. We're communicating! He started this with Auntie on Friday.

Jake is a very mellow fellow, but very smiley and fun. Toby loves him like crazy and constantly wants to hold him and give his "brullah" kisses and hugs. Jake loves watching toby, but is often perplexed by all the weird noises Toby makes at him.

We are lucky to have such wonderful baby.
